Build and Lead a U.S. Power Systems Consulting Practice

An established power systems engineering and consulting organization is entering an important stage of U.S. growth and is seeking a Director of Power Systems to help build and lead its utility consulting practice.

This opportunity is designed for an accomplished transmission planning or grid consulting leader who wants something increasingly difficult to find inside a mature organization: the opportunity to build.

You’ll have the platform of an established power systems business—including existing clients, experienced engineering resources and active work—while joining early enough to materially influence the U.S. practice. You’ll help develop clients, win work, recruit and lead engineers, establish technical direction and shape the organization over the next several years.

We’re looking for a leader who brings together technical credibility, industry relationships and commercial ability.

You may already be leading a successful consulting practice and developing a meaningful book of business. Or you may be a senior leader within a utility, ISO or RTO with deep regional expertise and relationships who is ready to apply that experience in a consulting environment.

If you’ve reached a point in your career where building something is more compelling than simply managing what someone else has already built, this is worth exploring.

What You’ll Do

As a Director, you’ll play a central role in growing the U.S. utility and power systems consulting practice.

You’ll be expected to:

This is a builder/player-coach role. The long-term opportunity is to lead a significant organization, but during the build phase, we’re looking for someone who is equally comfortable developing a client relationship, guiding an engineer and getting involved in a difficult technical problem.

What We’re Looking For

The strongest candidates will bring:

A master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems is preferred but not required.

A PE license is a plus, not a requirement.

Experience with PSCAD, EMT studies, inverter-based resources, renewable integration or complex generation/load interconnection is highly desirable.

Two Backgrounds Could Be Particularly Strong

Power Systems Consulting Leader

You may already be a Director, Principal, Practice Leader or senior consultant who has built client relationships, developed business and led a successful engineering team.

We’re particularly interested in leaders who have personally helped create and grow business, rather than only managing an established portfolio of work.

Utility / ISO / RTO Leader

You may instead be a senior transmission or system planning leader within a utility, ISO or RTO who knows a region exceptionally well.

If you’ve developed deep industry relationships, understand the technical and regulatory environment, and believe that expertise could translate into trusted consulting relationships, this could represent an opportunity to take your career in a very different direction.

Large Loads & Data Centers

Experience involving large computational loads and data centers from the grid perspective is particularly valuable.

Relevant experience could include:

This role is not focused on electrical design inside the data center facility. We’re interested in how very large loads interact with and affect the power system.

Why Join at This Stage?

Many experienced power systems leaders eventually reach a point where the next promotion means managing a larger version of an organization someone else has already built.

This opportunity offers something different.

You’ll join an organization with established technical capabilities, existing business and experienced power systems resources—but at a stage where the U.S. utility practice is still being shaped.

That creates an opportunity to:

The organization is deliberately building its senior technical and leadership foundation first, with broader team growth expected to follow.

For the right leader, that offers a rare combination:

The opportunity to build something meaningful without having to start from zero.
