Pay: $155,000–$175,000 annually, depending on experience.

About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join a growing power systems engineering organization in Atlanta, Georgia.

This position focuses on the electrical design and grid integration of utility-scale solar PV, battery energy storage systems (BESS), microgrids, and distributed energy resource (DER) projects.

You’ll work alongside experienced engineering professionals on challenging renewable energy projects, collaborating with EPC contractors, utilities, and project teams to develop reliable, code-compliant electrical solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop electrical power systems for utility-scale and commercial and industrial (C&I) solar, BESS, and microgrid projects.

• Prepare and review electrical engineering designs, technical documentation, and CAD-based drawings.

• Ensure designs comply with NEC, NESC, IEEE, UL, and applicable utility standards.

• Coordinate with power systems studies engineers to ensure designs satisfy steady-state and dynamic study requirements.

• Support utility interconnection activities, including point-of-interconnection (POI) requirements, system impact reviews, and approvals.

• Evaluate electrical protection, power quality, voltage regulation, anti-islanding, and grid synchronization requirements.

• Collaborate with engineering teams, EPC contractors, and project stakeholders throughout project development and execution.

• Support electrical design reviews, permitting, and engineering process improvements.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.

• 5+ years of relevant electrical engineering experience preferred, with strong consideration given to candidates who demonstrate exceptional technical expertise in renewable energy design and utility interconnections.

• Experience with solar PV, battery energy storage systems, microgrids, or distributed energy technologies.

• Strong understanding of electrical design, power systems engineering, and utility interconnection requirements.

• Working knowledge of IEEE 1547, IEEE 2800, UL 1741, NEC, and NESC standards.

• Understanding of electrical protection, power quality, voltage regulation, and grid integration.

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with renewable energy EPC contractors, engineering consulting firms, or utilities.

• Experience with utility-scale solar and BESS electrical design.

• Familiarity with CAD-based engineering workflows and power systems studies.

• Professional Engineer (PE) license or progress toward licensure is a plus.
